Picnic Conversations on Conservation (PiCCs)
- A fun and interactive forum where youth/women conservation professionals, students, pundits, enthusiasts come together to meet, eat, explore and enjoy various natural habitats/biodiversity hubs/heritage sites and openly have solution based conversations on conservation issues that matter to them. It is an open forum aimed at listening to what these young men and women have to say with regard to the challenges and solutions to conservation issues. Uvumbuzi Africa then looks into how it can facilitate implementation of these solutions.
- Ties in with our motto “Conservation by Discovery”, allowing the participants to discover new natural habitats/wildlife therein and be inspired to engage in their protection and environmental stewardship.
- How to participate: we will advertise on social media, email notifications, and WhatsApp groups a call for participants with the details of the PiCCs i.e. location, number of slots, theme, requirements etc .
IMPACT OF PICCS
- The PiCCs forum has engaged young men and women i.e. university students, wildlife clubs, youth engaged in community conservation, nature lovers and enthusiasts.
- The PiCCs events on average attract between 30 to 50 participants. In 2019 Uvumbuzi Africa hosted its PiCCs forums at the Oloolua Forest in Nairobi.
- In 2020, we have hosted successful PiCCs at the Narutenoi Conservancy, adjacent to the Nairobi National Park; and most recently, at the Mara Elephant Project (MEP) headquarters in the Maasai Mara. This was made possible through partnerships and our growing network of stakeholders,
- Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, we hosted our first online PiCCs on World Lion’s Day 2020, with 11 participants attending the forum.
